Opposition group urges Lithuania to step up sanctions against Belarus’ authorities
April 25, BPN. The Warsaw-based National Anti-Crisis Management (NAM) handed over proposals to Lithuania’s foreign ministry “to increase sanctions pressure on the [Alaksandr] Łukašenka regime,” the NAM head Pavieł Łatuška said in his Telegram channel.
Belarusian opposition activists met with a number of top Lithuanian diplomats, urging them to introduce additional sectoral and individual sanctions against those involved in the politically-motivated crackdown in Belarus and supporting Russia’s war on Ukraine.
The NAM reportedly reached an agreement to keep sanctions on potash fertilizers shipments to third countries and shared with Lithuanian human rights defenders a list of 415 judges responsible for passing politically-motivated verdicts.
Łatuška also met with the US Charge d’Affaires in Belarus Ruben Harutunian, stressing the importance of holding those responsible for human rights abuses in Belarus to account and investigating deportations of Ukrainian children to Belarus.
