KGB predicts “escalation” around Belarus

May 2, BPN. The Committee for State Security (KGB) expects “a significant escalation” around Belarus, its head Ivan Tertel has told the high-level meeting of security and law enforcement officials discussing border protection.

He linked the forecast to “the combat operations in the southern directions,” the state-run SB. Belarus Segodniya reported. Centers reportedly based abroad and supported by foreign intelligence agencies also keep planning “attempts to destabilize Belarus internally,” he said.

Alaksandr Łukašenka has instructed the authorities to tighten the counterintelligence measures to prevent developments similar to those taking place in the neighboring countries, Tertel added.
