Pope calls on Belarus to be a peace broker

June 30, BPN. Pope Francis addressed Belarusians through his official, who attended a festive event in Minsk yesterday, expressing concern about the “tragedy of war” in Eastern Europe, the Roman Catholic Church in Belarus says.

The Pope calls on Belarus to be inspired by its “special role as a bridge between East and West” and to work for peace “on the path of dialogue of justice and reconciliation within the country and in relations with neighboring peoples,” said Claudio Gugerotti, prefect of the Dicastery for the Eastern Churches.

“He also hopes that it can mediate peace and help avoid further dramatic events in the region,” he said.
