Number of NGO closures rising – report

July 11, BPN. A Belarusian human rights group has said that at least 1,337 NGOs, trade unions and other civic sector organizations vanished between the 2020 presidential election and late June 2023, as the government continued to carry out reprisals against citizens.

The number of closures rose from 1,283 in April and 1,315 in May, Lawtrend said in a report.

At least 854 non-profits were in the process of forced liquidation at the end of June. Pressure on NGOs took various forms, from disrupting organizations’ events to prosecuting activists, it said.
