July 21, BPN. Authorities in Belarus have freed Leanid Sudalenka, a veteran human rights defender, after he served his sentence in full, according to his Facebook page.
He was arrested in January 2021 and sentenced to three and a half years in prison later that year.
A court in Homiel found Sudalenka, who helped protesters in the Homiel region to write complaints and pay fines, guilty of organizing and financing protests.
His case file comprised 77 volumes. Authorities interrogated about 300 witnesses and summoned about 30 witnesses to testify during his trial held behind closed doors.
