United States slams Łukašenka’s threats to Poland as “irresponsible”

July 25, BPN. Alaksandar Łukašenka’s comments about the Wagner Group’s desire to invade Poland are “irresponsible”, Matthew Miller, spokesman for the US Department of State, told journalists on July 24.

“Our alliance with Poland is strong,” he stressed. “Poland is a NATO member, of course, and we will defend, if necessary, every inch of NATO territory.”

Russia has been the only country in the region to demonstrate both the intent and willingness to invade its neighbors, the official said commenting on Łukašenka’s allegations of potential aggression by Poland against Belarus.

The US-based Institute for the Study of War dismissed recent threats to Poland coming out of Minsk and Moscow as “information operations targeting the West.” The Wagner Group lacks hardware to threaten Ukraine or Poland from Belarus, the US-based think tank noted.

Warsaw has repeatedly voiced concerns about potential threats from Belarus and has moved to build up its military capabilities at the shared border.
