Defense minister: government to build 4,000 apartments for personnel

March 1, Pozirk. Belarus prioritizes “care for servicemen,” Defense Minister Viktar Chrenin said as he officially accepted two newly-built apartment buildings in Brest on Thursday.
Families of military and civilian personnel of the Brest garrison received keys to 143 rental apartments, the defense ministry’s press office reported.
The government plans to build more than 4,000 apartments for military servicemen across Belarus within a few years, Chrenin said.
“I am convinced that we will preserve peace, stability, independence and territorial integrity of our country with even greater dedication, good faith and decency,” the general noted.
Alaksandar Lukašenka’s Edict No 13 signed one year ago provides that military servicemen automatically become rental housing owners after 25 years of service.
After 20 years of service, the tenants can repay the cost of apartments in instalments for up to 15 years.
