Łukašenka urges officials to boost bus sales in Russia

April 9, Pozirk. Belarus should meet one-third of Russia’s needs in public transit vehicles, Alaksandar Łukašenka has told officials at a government conference, his press office reports.
The Belarusian ruler cited Russian President Vladimir Putin’s announcement of funds allocation to purchase 40,000 buses, trolleybuses, streetcars and electric buses by 2030. Belarusian companies must secure orders, Łukašenka stressed.
The Minsk Automobile Plant accounted for 4.6 percent of Russia’s bus market in the first two months of 2024.
Russian media have repeatedly reported incidents involving Belarus-made buses with at least nine incidents of buses catching fire reported in 2023.
The most recent incident was reported on January 3 in St. Petersburg.
