Tusk: Poland can count on considerable EU help in strengthening border with Belarus

October 25, Pozirk. Poland can expect the European Union to provide it with significant resources to strengthen its eastern border, primarily with Belarus, said Civic Platform leader and probable next premier Donald Tusk in Brussels after a meeting with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

He added that he meant both “practical and financial results” of the Polish-EU cooperation on this issue. Europe is interested in having a sealed and effectively controlled border, but also in solving the humanitarian problems there.

Led by the former Polish prime minister and European Council president, Civic Platform came second in the October 15 parliamentary elections, behind the ruling Law and Justice party. However, given the total number of the votes received by all opposition parties, Civic Platform is likely to form a coalition government. President Andrzej Duda is already consulting with all parties that have won seats in the Sejm.
