Łukašenka appoints new economy minister
January 4, Pozirk. Alaksandar Łukašenka has appointed Juryj Čabatar as economy minister, the Belarusian leader’s press office reported.
Born in Minsk in 1979, Čabatar graduated from the Belarusian State University of Economics in 2002 and the Academy of Management under the President in 2008. He had been working at the economy ministry in various capacities, serving as first deputy minister since June 2020.
The position has been vacant since November 20 when former minister Alaksandar Čarviakoŭ was appointed as ambassador to China.
Łukašenka has also appointed Siarhiej Laŭkovič as his aide for the Viciebsk region; Michaił Kasko as ambassador to India; Taćciana Mikolenka as judge at the Commonwealth of Independent States Economic Court; Ihar Załatar as head of logistics department at the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Joint Staff.
The Belarusian ruler also approved Siarhiej Jahoraŭ and Pavieł Hubko as heads of the Viciebsk and Maładziečna District Executive Committees, respectively; Siarhej Babovič as CEO of the nuclear power plant; Valeryj Viarenič as first deputy transport minister; Vital Jadzievič as member of the Mahiloŭ Regional Executive Committee and Siarhiej Zajcaŭ as head of the Military Security Department at the CSTO Secretariat.
