Opposition leader grateful to Moldova for supporting democratic Belarus

August 27, Pozirk. Belarusian opposition leader Śviatłana Cichanoŭskaja has acknowledged Moldova’s “unwavering support for democratic Belarus” in her congratulatory message on Moldovan Independence Day.
“Your achievements are both an inspiration and a great example for us,” she said on X.
Alaksandar Łukašenka’s message stressed that Minsk “has always regarded Chişinău as a reliable partner and is ready to resume constructive cooperation.”
Only an equal and respectful dialogue of long-time friends and neighbors would help overcome present-day challenges, his press office reported, citing the message.
Moldova was granted the European Union membership candidate status in June 2022. Earlier, Łukašenka claimed that the West wants to tear it away from the Commonwealth of Independent States, uniting post-Soviet countries.
On October 20, Moldova will hold a presidential election timed to coincide with a referendum on EU membership.
