September 16, Pozirk. Volha Harbunova has resigned as the United Transitional Cabinet (UTC) social security chief, the opposition body said in a statement.
Harbunova, 43, is a feminist activist and former prisoner. She served in the UTC since December 2022. Opposition leader Śviatłana Cichanoŭskaja accepted her resignation.
Harbunova said it was not an easy decision. After thinking about it for a while, she concluded that she would like to continue her activities as a humanitarian rather than a politician and help political prisoners.
“I am grateful to the Cabinet and other pro-democracy structures for cooperation. I am sure that it will continue, but I will play a different role,” Harbunova said.
