Opposition expects Washington’s Belarus policy to remain consistent under Trump

November 6, Pozirk. Belarusian opposition leader Śviatłana Cichanoŭskaja has congratulated Donald Trump on his victory in the United States presidential election as he declared victory over Democrat Kamala Harris, returning to the White House four years after his first term.
“I look forward to continuing and enhancing our cooperation with the US to bring freedom to Belarus. The US will always be a key ally for us as we fight to free our country from tyranny,” she said on X.
The Belarusian opposition hopes that the US will remain consistent in its policy on Belarus, her aide Franak Viačorka has told Pozirk.
“The topic of Belarus unites various US politicians regardless of their party affiliation,” he said, commenting on Trump’s victory. “Of course, we also have contacts with representatives of the Republican Party and circles close to Donald Trump. We will strengthen and expand these contacts.”
Belarusian opposition values US contributions to seeking the release of political prisoners in Belarus, supporting independent media and civil society and pressure on Alaksandar Łukašenka’s regime, he stressed.
Viačorka confirmed that pro-democracy forces and Washington will continue collaboration within the strategic dialogue with the next session scheduled for December, prior to Trump’s inauguration.
