Coordination Council to elect new speaker in May

April 26, Pozirk. Stasia Hlińnik, who is deputizing for missing Coordination Council (CC) speaker Anžalika Mielnikava, has told Pozirk that she does not seek to become a permanent speaker.
In about two weeks, it will be three months since Mielnikava has not performed her duties. If Hlińnik does not take over her powers, the CC will hold speaker elections on May 13.
Hlińnik defended her decision by saying that “it would be undemocratic” to combine her position in Śviatłana Cichanoŭskaja’s office with the Coordination Council leadership.
“Today, it is important for me to maintain that part of my work that concerns supporting and helping the president-elect,” Cichanoŭskaja’s aide stressed.
Hlińnik added that she will continue to represent the European Choice faction, which has eight of 80 seats in the CC.
Poland-based opposition politician Mielnikava has not contacted her associates since March 25. The Lublin branch of the National Prosecutor’s Office launched an investigation into her disappearance in line with a Criminal Code article against deprivation of liberty.
