Makiej and Lavrov discuss the war in Ukraine

March 6, BPN. The war in Ukraine was the major topic of the phone conversation between Belarusian Foreign Minister Uladzimir Makiej and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, according to the press services of both foreign ministries.

The sides discussed “the situation in the region and the situation in connection with a special military operation in Ukraine,” Belarusian Foreign Ministry noted.

In turn, Russian Foreign Ministry said that Makiej and Lavrov discussed “the real state of affairs and the progress of Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine.”

According to the Belarusian Foreign Ministry, the interlocutors “discussed key issues of cooperation in the international arena, including cooperation to counter information attacks and the spread of misleading information,” and “touched on issues of opening humanitarian corridors for the evacuation of foreign citizens from war zones or those in a difficult situation on the territory of Ukraine.” The upcoming bilateral contacts were “discussed additionally.”

The Russian Foreign Ministry reports that Russia was “particularly grateful to Belarus for providing the venue and creating comfortable conditions for the Russian-Ukrainian negotiations.”

The ministers “coordinated the next steps of the two countries’ delegations in international organizations.”

Lavrov “congratulated his colleague on the success of the constitutional referendum in Belarus.”
