Official says Łukašenka demands growth in agriculture in 2022

August 22, BPN. Alaksandr Łukašenka demanded that the government ensure a four-percent growth in agricultural production by the end of 2022, Dźmitryj Jaraševič, deputy economy minister, told Belarus 1 TV channel.

He also confirmed that Łukašenka demanded that the government should prevent a GDP decrease this year.

The Belarusian economy’s decline accelerated in July, with GDP falling by 4.6 percent in the first half of 2022 and by 5.2 percent year on year from January to July.

Industrial production fell by 6.2 percent and agricultural production, by 10.4 percent – a record drop in agriculture in recent years.

Last year, the economy grew by 2.3 percent.
