Prominent human rights defender Łasica freed from prison

September 24, BPN. Authorities have released from prison human rights defender Taćciana Łasica, the Homiel branch of the Viasna Human Rights Center reported.

No further details of her release are available.

Łasica was an assistant to Leanid Sudalenka, head of the Homiel’s branch of Viasna. In November 2021, a court in Homiel sentenced Sudalenka to three years in prison, and Łasica, to two and a half years for allegedly financing protests.

Human rights organizations dismissed the charges as politically motivated.
