Official says Łukašenka wants BelGee to double production in 2023
November 21, BPN. Belarusian-Chinese BelGee car plant plans to produce at least 35,000 Geely cars in 2023, Deputy Prime Minister Piotr Parchomčyk told Belarus 1 TV channel in an interview broadcast on Sunday evening.
“In October we have already manufactured 3,100 passenger vehicles,” he said, adding that the total amount of new cars produced in 2022 will be around 25,000, a decline by some 4,400 from the 2021 level.
At the same time, Alaksandr Łukašenka wants BelGee to reach its full capacity of 60,000 cars, he said.
The car plant and Belarusian authorities have to figure out whether they can sell all these cars in the Belarusian and Russian markets, Parchomčyk noted.
In March 2022, BelGee suspended production for two weeks citing logistics issues and disruptions in the supplies of materials and assembly kits from China.
In mid-August, Parchomčyk said that Alaksandr Łukašenka had intervened to secure supplies of assembly kits for BelGee-produced Chinese Geely cars that contained European-made parts.
