Belarus’ top diplomat, Hungary’s envoy confirm readiness for cooperation

December 28, BPN. Foreign Minister Siarhiej Alejnik and Hungarian Ambassador Zsolt Csutora have discussed “the state of Belarusian-Hungarian relations” and “topical issues on the regional and international agenda,” the Belarusian foreign ministry’s press office reports.

The parties confirmed their readiness “to continue dialogue and further develop their cooperation in mutually beneficial areas,” it said.

This is Alejnik’s first known meeting with a EU envoy since he became Belarus’ top diplomat. A member of the EU, which views Alaksandr Łukašenka’s presidency as illegitimate, Hungary openly criticizes Brussels’ sanctions policy.

On December 15, Belarusian Ambassador in Budapest Uładzimir Ułachovič and senior Hungarian diplomat Péter Sztáray talked about “intensifying the Belarusian-Hungarian interagency dialogue,” the Belarusian foreign ministry reported at the time. It said the parties considered “a range of bilateral cooperation issues with an emphasis on trade and economy.”
