VKontakte blocks access to pages labeled extremist in Belarus

January 12, BPN. The Russian social network VKontakte continues to block access to pages declared extremist by Belarus. On January 11, it denied Belarusian users access to the Tipichny Borisov group, whose posts had been declared “extremist content” in late 2021, the Viasna Human Rights Center reported.

On January 10, at the request of Belarusian authorities, VKontakte banned Belarusian users from accessing the independent media Zerkalo, Mediazona and Belsat, as well as Viasna. The pages can still be accessed using VPN.
