Cichanoŭskaja discusses new Belarus strategy with Spain’s leadership
January 17, BPN. Opposition leader Śviatłana Cichanoŭskaja discussed the development of a new EU strategy for Belarus during her meetings with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez and Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares at the annual World Economic Forum in Davos on January 17.
“They also talked about some kind of temporary IDs for Belarusians who have fled to the EU and do not support the [Łukašenka] regime,” Cichanoŭskaja’s office told BPN. “It was agreed that a rehabilitation program for repressed Belarusians would be launched in the coming months. The first families will soon go to Spain for six months or a year. The Spanish government will fully fund it. It will be a recurring program.”
They also discussed political trials in Belarus. The foreign minister pledged that Spain would not recognize court decisions and possible revocation of citizenship from activists, and would continue issuing visas in Minsk, the office said.
