Russia lacks forces for attacking Ukraine from Belarus – Ukrainian think tank

February 4, BPN. The likelihood of a repeated Russian offensive against Ukraine from Belarus remains low, said Vadym Denysenko, director of the Ukrainian Institute for the Future and former adviser to Ukraine’s interior minister.

Russia would need about one month to gather enough forces, he added. “We will all know if it starts accumulating troops, equipment and ammunition on the territory of Belarus,” UNIAN quoted him as saying.

Currently, Russia does not have sufficient capacity to carry out a large-scale attack like the one in February 2022, Denysenko stressed.

In February 2022, Russia started a full-scale war against Ukraine. Alaksandr Łukašenka admitted that Belarus participated in Russia’s war on Ukraine, but said it was “not killing anyone.”

Authorities in Minsk denied Belarusian army troops’ involvement in combat operations on the Russian side. However, Belarus allowed Russian troops and weapons to move freely through the country, use its airspace, refuel and store military equipment and attack Ukraine from its territory.
