Łukašenka summons security chiefs amid reports of attack on military airport

February 27, BPN. Alaksandr Łukašenka has summoned the heads of the security agencies for an inner-circle meeting on February 27 following an extended meeting on defense procurement.

Participants include Security Council head Alaksandr Valfovič, Defense Minister Viktar Chrenin, Interior Minister Ivan Kubrakoŭ, the Committee for State Security (KGB) chief Ivan Cierciel and State Border Committee head Anatol Łapo.

The meeting is taking place amid reports of an attack on the Mačuliščy military airfield near Minsk on February and damage to the expensive Russian early warning and control aircraft A-50.

Alaksandr Azaraŭ from the BYPOL association of former security forces said that the members of the opposition’s Pieramoha plan carried out the attack using two drones.

The attackers have fled Belarus, Azaraŭ added.

Belarusian authorities have not yet officially confirmed or denied the incident.
