Investigators file criminal cases for interviews with banned media

February 28, BPN. The Investigations Committee says it has opened criminal cases against three citizens for giving interviews to “extremist” media.

The committee suspects them of facilitating extremism, an offense that can be punished with up to seven years in prison, it said.

Human rights defenders had documented at least two cases of criminal prosecution for interviews with banned media.

On January 19, the Brest Regional Court sentenced Darja Łosik to two years in prison for an interview to Belsat TV. On December 23, the Minsk Regional Court sentenced defense analyst Jahor Lebiadok to five years in prison for an interview with Euroradio.
