KGB head says foreign nationals from neighboring countries arrested for spying

April 4, BPN. Belarusian authorities have arrested nationals of Poland, Ukraine and the Baltic states for “carrying out active undercover operations,” Ivan Cierciel, head of the Committee for State Security (KGB), has told the state-run media.

Dozens of Ukrainians are under arrest for” terrorist attempts, reconnaissance and espionage activities,” he noted, adding that the KGB denied the exchange requests of the Ukrainian side.

Belarusian security services also arrested several Belarusians for cooperation with the suspected spies, BelTA reported quoting Cierciel as saying.

The KGB is expecting a rise in “terrorist activities” in spring, its chief added.
