Polish interior minister sends police force to Belarus border

July 2, BPN. The Polish interior minister has said on Twitter that he has ordered an increase in the protection of the border with Belarus, citing a “tense situation.”

Mariusz Kamiński said a force of 500 police officers will be deployed. They will join the 5,000 border guards and 2,000 military personnel already protecting the frontier.

Polish Deputy Prime Minister Jarosław Kaczyński, the leader of the ruling Law and Justice party, announced plans to reinforce the eastern border earlier this week.

The plans were developed in response to the expected deployment of Wagner Group, the Russian army of mercenaries, in Belarus.
