Mother of jailed politician Seviaryniec arrested – rights group
January 9, Pozirk. Viciebsk police have arrested Taćciana Seviaryniec, mother of prominent jailed opposition politician Pavieł Seviaryniec, the Viasna Human Rights Center reported.
She was taken to the main department of the interior ministry’s organized crime unit.
Her son Pavieł was arrested in June 2020 in the run-up to the presidential election, which he used to promote his political agenda. In May 2021, he was given seven years in prison on charges of preparing mass riots.
About a year later, authorities blacklisted him as a person “involved in extremist activities” and transferred him from a penal colony to prison for three years.
Seviaryniec turned 47 on December 30, 2023.
