Mother of jailed politician Seviaryniec hospitalized after arrest

January 10, Pozirk. Taćciana Seviaryniec, mother of prominent jailed opposition politician Pavieł Seviaryniec, was hospitalized after her arrest on January 9, her daughter Hanna said on social media.
“Mom is in hospital with blood pressure [problems]. At least she slept on a mattress and I thank the universe for that,” she said.
Police reportedly arrested Taćciana Seviaryniec for Facebook subscriptions, which she had not had for a long time.
Her son, a Belarusian Christian Democracy leader was arrested in June 2020 after appearing an election campaign gathering in downtown Minsk in the run-up to the presidential election.
In May 2021, he was given seven years in prison on charges of preparing mass riots.
About a year later, authorities blacklisted him as a person “involved in extremist activities” and transferred him from a penal colony to prison for three years.
Seviaryniec turned 47 on December 30, 2023.
