February 9, Pozirk. Authorities have released journalist Siarhiej Hardzijevič from jail after his 15-day sentence expired on the evening of February 8, the Belarusian Association of Journalists reported.
Last month, Judge Julija Kuksa convicted Hardzijevič of spreading extremism by sharing November’s article from Hancavicki Čas, an independent media outlet branded extremist by law enforcers.
The court disregarded the fact that his health “significantly deteriorated. He lost consciousness and had to consult doctors several times,” the BAJ said at the time.
Security forces arrested the former correspondent for the Pieršy Rehijon news website in Drahičyn, Brest region, on January 24.
