March 30, Pozirk. “We can’t allow Belarus to be reduced to an ‘execution chamber’ for [Vladimir] Putin’s Russia,” opposition leader Śviatłana Cichanoŭskaja said on X, commenting on a proposal to try Russia’s terrorism suspects in her homeland.

Cichanoŭskaja recalled that Belarus remained the last European country to execute individuals convicted of grave crimes.

“It must be abolished – along with the regime that has shown a complete disregard for human lives,” she said.

Earlier, Russian MP Mariya Butina said the alleged terrorists who had attacked the Crocus City Hall near Moscow could be tried in Belarus, where death sentences were still applied.

Two Belarusians were killed in the attack, Butina said. “Therefore, you have as much right as Russia to bring these people to trial,” she told a Belarusian TV show yesterday.

“I believe that relevant authorities are already discussing it.”
