June 29, Pozirk. Romania deliberately banned a Belarusian delegation from entering the country to prevent it from attending the annual session of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe’s Parliamentary Assembly (OSCE PA) in Bucharest, the delegation said in a statement.
Released on the opening day of the session, the statement slams the decision as a violation of OSCE principles and commitments.
Romania announced the ban two weeks ago, citing its opposition to Russia’s aggressive war on Ukraine supported by authorities in Minsk as the reason.
Banning the Belarusian parliamentary delegation from the OSCE PA session in Bucharest reflects “blatant bias and discrimination” amid aggravating foreign policy trends, the MPs stressed.
“Approaches that deprive full members of the opportunity to present their national positions undermine the international authority and foundations of the organization itself,” they said, refusing to recognize decisions that may be taken concerning Belarus.
In late April, both chambers of the Belarusian National Assembly formed delegations for work with the European parliamentary organizations, including the OSCE PA.
