Mother, aunt of jailed anarchist activist face criminal charges
July 25, Pozirk. Investigators accuse Taćciana Franckievič and her sister Natalla Łabacevič of association with an extremist group, Mediazona reported.
Both women are reportedly held at a pre-trial detention center in Viciebsk after police arrested them at Penal Colony No 11 in Vaŭkavysk, Hrodna region, as they brought a parcel for Taćciana’s son Alaksandar.
He is serving a lengthy prison term on charges widely seen as politically motivated.
Last year, the Committee for State Security (KGB) blacklisted the anarchist activist as a terrorist.
The reports of their persecution come as authorities seem to have stepped up their crackdown on family members of political prisoners and exiled activists.
