Norway joins EU sanctions against Belarus
October 7, Pozirk. Norway has imposed sanctions against Minsk in response to the regime’s role in Russia’s illegal attack on Ukraine, according to a statement released by the Norwegian government.
The comprehensive sanctions are in line with those introduced by the European Union against the regime in June 2024. They target several sectors of the Belarusian economy, including trade, services and transportation.
In particular, the measures are intended to prevent the circumvention of anti-Russia sanctions.
They target technical assistance in defense goods and technologies, transit of weapons and ammunition through Belarusian territory, sale of intellectual property rights related to such goods, exports that could contribute to Belarus’ defense and security sector, transit of multipurpose goods and technologies, etc.
Norway has also banned legal entities with 25 percent or more Belarusian capital from trucking business.
Earlier today, Belarusian opposition leader Śviatłana Cichanoŭskaja took to Twitter (X) to announce her visit to Oslo at the invitation of the Norwegian parliament later this week.
“I’ll meet with Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide, the Norwegian Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee and the Norwegian Helsinki Committee to discuss vital support for our civil society and accountability for the regime,” Cichanoŭskaja said.
The politician also plans to speak at a seminar on political prisoners.
