Baltic states unplug from power grid shared with Belarus, Russia

February 8, Pozirk. Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania have disconnected from BRELL, a Soviet-era power grid that includes Belarus and Russia, Delfi reports.
The Baltic states’ power operators have started testing their systems in preparation for synchronization with ENTSO-E, the European continental electricity network, scheduled for noon on February 9.
The Belarusian energy ministry assured customers of “stable and reliable operation” of all energy systems after the Baltic states left BRELL, its press office says. Earlier, it warned that said the move would primarily affect consumers in the Baltic states.
Ukraine joined ENTSO-E a few months after Russia launched a full-scale war on it in February 2022.
