Belarusian culture portal reaches out to readers for donations

April 1, Pozirk. Budźma Biełarusami, a website promoting Belarusian culture, language and education, has found itself in dire straits.

“Today, like never before, we need your help to keep creating unique Belarusian content for you,” the editorial staff said in an address to readers.

“We know that many of you have grown up with Budźma, got acquainted with the Belarusian culture through our campaign, watched and read our stories, and attended our events. We are sincerely grateful and ask for your help.”

The editors need €16,000 a month to keep running Budzma.org, its social media and video production. They have described the situation as critical.

The project was launched in 2008 on the initiative of the World Association of Belarusians. Minsk declared Budzma.org extremist content in 2023, banning its possession and distribution in Belarus.

Several other exiled Belarusian media have appealed for donations recently amid financial difficulties.
