Third of Belarus-based Poles vote for Trzaskowski as president

May 19, Pozirk. Ninety-nine Belarus-based Poles cast their votes in the Polish presidential election at the Polish consulate in Minsk yesterday, with 30.3 percent backing Warsaw Mayor Rafal Trzaskowski of the ruling centrist Civic Coalition.
Trzaskowski won 31.2 percent of the votes in the first round, followed by the right-wing Karol Nawrocki with 29.7 percent, the National Electoral Commission said. Both will face off against each other in the runoff scheduled for June 1.
Voter turnout in the first round was reported at 66.8 percent.
The winner will succeed Andrzej Duda of the right-wing Law and Justice party (PiS), who has been in office since 2015 and is currently completing his second term.
