Investigators launch probe into death of pregnant woman in Minsk region

March 10, Pozirk. The Investigative Committee’s department in Dziaržynsk, Minsk region, has launched a probe into the death of a 26-year-old pregnant woman on March 8, its press office reports.
A team of investigators was dispatched to a hospital in the Minsk region, where the 26-year-old woman died of anaphylactic shock after receiving medication. Investigators and forensic experts interviewed eyewitnesses, collected medical records and seized medications and other medical instruments.
Earlier, social media reports said a young woman, 34 weeks pregnant, died in labor at the Dziaržynsk Central District Hospital. Her baby also did not survive.
Health ministry official Leanid Niedzień commented on the incident today, noting that the hospital stopped using the drug that the woman had been administered.
Maternal mortality rate in Belarus currently does not exceed 1.5 cases per 100,000 live births, according to the official data. In 1993, this figure stood at 20.4.
