Cichanoŭskaja calls on Denmark to endorse New Belarus passport
October 10, Pozirk. Opposition leader Śviatłana Cichanoŭskaja has called on Denmark to consider the expired passports of exiled Belarusians as valid, her aide told Pozrik.
In a meeting with Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen, she also called for extending residence permits, issuing travel documents and endorsing the launch of a New Belarus passport.
She spoke against visa restrictions for Belarusians and called for support of those fleeing reprisals.
The two leaders discussed holding the Łukašenka regime accountable for the alleged deportation of Ukrainian children, crimes against humanity, torture and arbitrary trials. Cichanoŭskaja called on Rasmussen to ask the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court to open a probe into the regime’s wrongdoings.
They also discussed closing sanctions loopholes, sanctions evasion through Russia and Central Asia, cooperation in the Nordic Council of Ministers, which comprises five Scandinavian countries, and in the Nordic-Baltic council that represents Scandinavia and the Baltics.
Besides, Cichanoŭskaja had meetings in the Danish parliament and the Danish Cultural Institute, which has a joint program with the independent Belarusian Council for Culture. She also met with leaders of an international platform collecting evidence of the regime’s crimes, and with Danish and Belarusian human rights activists.
Cichanoŭskaja’s three-day visit to Copenhagen, where the NATO Parliamentary Assembly is holding its 69th annual session, began on October 8.
