US Embassy says Łukašenka regime should be held accountable for supporting Russia in Ukraine

August 24, BPN. The US Embassy in Belarus has said Alaksandr Łukašenka’s regime should be held accountable for supporting Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

“The United States will continue to promote accountability for the Łukašenka regime’s egregious human rights abuses, including the jailing of over 1,300 political prisoners. We will also stand firm in holding the regime to account for its support of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine,” the statement reads.

“The struggle to maintain Ukraine’s independence and to restore democracy in Belarus go hand-in-hand,” it said in the statement marking Ukraine’s Independence Day. Russia’s expansionist and imperialist policies threaten the independent future of both countries, it added.
