Cichanoŭskaja: Protecting independence opposition’s top priority
August 26, BPN. The Joint Transition Cabinet’s main priority is to protect the independence of Belarus, opposition leader Śviatłana Cichanoŭskaja said in a video address marking the unofficial Independence Day, August 25.
“Belarusians again face the risk of losing their independence. Independence is like air. We don’t think about how important it is as long as it exists. So you don’t have to wait for it to be lost to start protecting it,” she said.
According to her, over the past two weeks cabinet members discussed a strategy and a division of responsibility: “who should do what, and, perhaps more importantly, what they should not do.”
At a conference in Vilnius on August 9, 2022, Cichanoŭskaja announced the formation of a cabinet to oust Alaksandr Łukašenka from power and move Belarus towards democracy.
