Opposition politician says visa restrictions on persecuted Belarusians unacceptable
August 31, BPN. The application of visa restrictions to Belarusians, who face politically-motivated persecution and oppose Russia’s war against Ukraine, is unacceptable, Pavieł Łatuška, a member of the opposition’s transition cabinet told Ernej Müller, responsible for foreign and security policy at the Slovenian foreign ministry.
Łatuška noted that any visa restrictions should target members of Alaksandr Łukašenka’s regime and security forces that support the Russian aggression in Ukraine.
The parties also discussed legal pressure on the Belarusian authorities and the use of national criminal jurisdiction as a tool for prosecuting those responsible for crimes against Belarusians, Łatuška’s Telegram channel reported.
The EU countries are currently discussing possible visa restrictions for Russian nationals, while there are also proposals to apply sanctions to Belarusians as nationals of an aggressor country.
In Slovenia, the Belarusian politician attended the Bled Strategic Forum held on August 29 and 30.
