Belarusians, Russians banned from Boston Marathon again

September 13, BPN. Belarusian and Russian nationals have been barred from participating in the 2023 Boston Marathon for the second year in a row, the Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.) said.

It noted that Belarusians and Russians who are residents in other countries will be able to compete, but will not be able to run under the flag of either country.

The ban is linked to Russia’s war against Ukraine and the role of Minsk in supporting it. Participants from both countries were banned from this year’s event in April.

Registration for the 2023 Boston Marathon is open from September 12 to 16.

The Boston Marathon is one of the oldest and most prestigious races. Since 1897, it is traditionally held on Patriots’ Day, the third Monday of April.
