Ukraine’s interior ministry holding drills at Belarus border
September 14, BPN. Ukrainian security forces have launched the active phase of the Northern Storm 2022 exercise in areas bordering Belarus.
Police and territorial defense forces are training in engineering defensive positions and mining the territory.
“The units jointly train in liberating and clearing areas from enemy forces, practice detecting, blocking and eliminating armed, subversive and reconnaissance groups,” the press office of the Ukrainian interior ministry said.
Ukraine has beefed up security at its border with Belarus after it forced Russian troops to retreat following a failed attempt to capture Kyiv in February. An estimated 20,000-strong Russian force invaded Ukraine from Belarus on February 24, Alaksandr Lukašenka revealed in an interview with AFP. He also admitted that Russians fired missiles at Ukraine from Belarusian territory.
