Case on insulting hero pilots goes to court

September 14, BPN. The Łuniniec District Prosecutor’s Office, Brest region, has referred to a court the case on “cynical” Facebook comments about two pilots who died in a plane crash.

A 58-year-old local resident is charged with publicly insulting the state’s representatives, the Prosecutor General’s Office reports. His last name is not revealed. The Łuniniec district’s resident was detained in February 2022.

The Yak-130 aircraft crashed during a training flight in Baranavičy on May 19, 2021 because of a control system failure. Both pilots, Major Andrej Ničyparčyk and Lieutenant Mikita Kukanienka, died. The crew had managed to avoid a residential area.

On December 17, 2021 Alaksandr Łukašenka presented the Hero of Belarus medals to the victims’ relatives.
