Belarus looking to participate in Hungary’s nuclear plant construction – envoy
July 27, BPN. Belarus has submitted its proposal to the Hungarian side to participate in the construction of a nuclear power plant, Uładzimir Ułachovič, the Belarusian ambassador to Hungary, told the Belarus 1 TV channel.
Hungary managed to obtain approval from the European Commission for a project to expand capacity of its Russian-designed nuclear plant, he added. Rosatom will build the same reactor it has tested at the Belarusian nuclear plant in Astraviec, the diplomat noted.
The start of Unit 2 construction at Paks is scheduled for August, Ułachovič said.
Hungary may need services of builders and engineers from Belarus, but so far collaboration has been limited to an expert group, he noted.
Belarus continues to cooperate with Hungary in agriculture, pharmaceutical and IT sectors that are not affected by the Western sanctions, the diplomat added.
Hungary is the only European Union to maintain public contact with Minsk.
