December 27, Pozirk. The Council of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) ruled to exempt Belarus from import customs duty on selected types of seafood to be sold domestically in 2024-2026, its press office reported.

Products include several types of squid, octopus, mussels and krill meat not currently produced in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), said EEC Trade Minister Andrei Slepnev.

Seafood is only packaged in Belarus, a landlocked country.

The move would reportedly help reduce the Western sanctions’ impact and curb inflation.

The EAEU is an international organization for regional economic integration. Its member states include Belarus and Russia, which are under international sanctions for the assault on Ukraine, as well as Armenia, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. Cuba, Moldova, and Uzbekistan have observer status. Vietnam, Serbia, and Singapore have signed free trade agreements with the EAEU.
