Jailed opposition activist Daškievič given another prison term
October 19, Pozirk. Judge Taćciana Dzieravianka from Barysaŭ, Minsk region, has sentenced opposition activist Źmicier Daškievič to one year in a high-security prison, his wife Anastasija said on Facebook.
Authorities accused the activist of disobeying prison authorities for allegedly refusing to go for a walk, talking to another inmate and staying on the floor in the punishment cell.
Daškievič was not released on July 11 after serving his 18-month prison sentence for alleged participation in a protest rally in August 2020.
His wife is currently serving a three-year restricted freedom term in home confinement on similar charges. Both refused to testify admitting only to being present at the rally.
Daškievič, former leader of the Małady Front patriotic youth organization, had served three politilically-motivated prison terms.
