Belarusian rights groups demand transparency from Russia on ex-Naftan worker’s case

February 13, Pozirk. Belarusian human rights activists are demanding that Russia show ex-Naftan worker Siarhiej Jeramiejeŭ to the public and report his whereabouts.

A joint statement to this effect was signed by BYSOL Foundation, BY_help, Strana Dlya Zhizni, and Dissidentby.

Jeramiejeŭ was reportedly last seen two months ago in court, when his incarceration was being considered.

The human rights groups said that if he was still alive, Russian authorities could be hiding him “to conceal evidence of possible torture (given the accusations of organizing explosions under the control of Ukrainian secret services).”

In December 2023, the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) announced the detention of Jeramiejeŭ, from Belarus’ Viciebsk region, in the Omsk province on suspicion of committing a terrorist attack.

He was an instrument technician at the Naftan company in Navapołack and participated in the 2020 strike at the company.
