More than 300 MEPs sign postcards for Belarusian political prisoners

March 14, Pozirk. More than 300 members of the European Parliament (EP) signed postcards for Belarusians imprisoned on politically-motivated charges, Belarusian opposition leader Śviatłana Cichanoŭskaja said on X yesterday.
“Your remarkable act of solidarity brings hope and renews our energy to fight this injustice,” she noted. “Lives are at stake and we can’t stop until all are released.”
The signing of postcards is part of the #EPstandsBYyyou campaign conducted during the plenary session of the EP between March 11 and 14.
Cichanoŭskaja linked the initiative’s revival to her recent meeting with EP President Roberta Metsola.
“I’m sure #EPstandsBYyyou will encourage politicians across Europe to join the campaign for the freedom of Belarusian political prisoners,” she said on the Telegram messenger app.
As of March 14, human rights defenders identified at least 1,412 political prisoners in Belarus but the real number is considerably higher because many cases go undocumented. Opposition sources estimate the number of political prisoners at around 5,000.
