Łatuška urges Cichanoŭskaja to promote Coordination Council election

May 18, Pozirk. Belarusian opposition leader Śviatłana Cichanoŭskaja should encourage all Belarusians to vote in the upcoming election for the Coordination Council, Pavieł Łatuška of the opposition transition cabinet has told Pozirk.
Łatuška heads the largest coalition running in the election, which along with six others signed a joint appeal to Cichanoŭskaja on May 16, urging her to promote the poll scheduled from May 25 to 27.
The council was designed to act as a representative body defending Belarusian independence, seeking accountability for Alaksandar Łukašenka and his officials and promoting Belarusians’ interests, including mobility, education and assistance to political prisoners, Łatuška said.
All these aspects are important both for those who remain in Belarus and those who fled the country fearing politically-motivated persecution, he stressed.
The electronic voting platform would be safe for everyone, including people inside Belarus, who must have equal opportunities with the exiles, the politician noted.
Two days ago, authorities in Minsk designated all candidates running in the election as extremists.
